There is a 17 year old out there that got a 750,000 dollar offer!

According to Yahoo News there are still short people out there in the world that are considered basketball prodigies. In Patterson Maryland there is a boy by the name of Aquille Carr that is quick as lightning, high scoring and a show stopping point guard who is only 17 years old and 5’6 inches tall. When Aquille went to play in Milan Italy for a tournament for the USA junior team a team in Italy by the name of Lottomatica Virtus Roma offered Aquille a 750,000 dollar contract to come play in the professional European league in Italy. Aquille average 40 points a game when he played in the tournament they were at, in high school he average 33 points a game against top schools.

Is this crazy or what? I think that Aquille Carr should at least graduate from high school first because education is key. I’m not saying if I was in his position I wouldn’t take it I would actually consider it like he is there are several thing he would have to look at thou. One thing for him to look at is that he is only 5’6 so it would be really hard to make it to the NBA but if he was to go to Italy and prove his self there he could eventually go to the NBA from there.

I don’t take anything from Aquille because he is short I’m sure he could hang with the best of them. I watched him play on video this kid is fast as lightning and can spread the ball around the court and can score with it just as fast as he can pass the ball. This kid is good there isn’t any way anybody could take anything from him what he has accomplished and has got on video nobody can take that from him because what done is done and when you’re good your good nobody can say any different.

I really hope that this kid takes his time to make his decision if he decides to go to Italy or he decides to stay in school and try to go to college I would support both of them.  I could see where the money looks good but he also has to think about it the other way to basketball won’t always be there so he may want to have something to fall back on if all else fails.

  1. Wow what a tough decision for a 17 year old. He is in a very unique situation that will have life altering decisions. There are not to many 17 year old boys that are capable of making thought out everyday decisions (I know I didn't always think things through). I do hope he at least finishes high school, but I also can't say that at that age I would not have took the money and left.

  2. That is impressive, I have not heard about this kid at all. What a decision to make. Of course first instinct is to stay in school and he can always try out later (if he wasn't sought after first by a school. However, after reading your other blog and how kids are going basically in debt just to complete school, it is making me reconsider.

I think the "old rule of thumb" is changing. I do fully believe in getting a good education. I think it is so important to secure your future. But with all the expenses involved today in going to school and the economy not recovering the way we thought it would, it is making the decisions harder and harder. The cost of a good education is just rising every year and yet our savings and going down and loan costs are going up. How does one choose what is the proper way to go? The thought of paying on your loans well into your 40's maybe even 50's when you should be planning for retirement and grandchildren is frightening!

As I am writing this, I am thinking, he should go for it! He can always go back and get his education later. This type of opportunity may not be there in the future. At least he could pay for his education later and not be in debt for it!
